Jacob Melgren is a Texas artist and educator living and working between South Texas and France. Initially studying biology and engineering, Jacob received a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Houston and later an MFA in Performance from the Art Institute of Chicago, where he also taught as a graduate assistant. Returning to Texas in 2019, Jacob currently teaches art at Alvin Community College and Third Coast Clay
Jacob’s works, both collaborative and individual, have been featured at notable Houston institutions such as Aurora Picture Show and the Bayou City Arts Festival, as well as in Chicago’s Dfbrl8r Gallery and Links Hall. He has also presented workshops and lectures across disciplines, grade levels, and collaborative teaching environments, including Performing Arts Houston. His work in ceramics took form in 2020 and has since been developed into a series of pieces shaped with the echoes of bodily forms or brought to life as kinetic or performance art.
